Development Officer

Position Title: Development Officer, Atlanta Botanical Garden, Gainesville
Reports to: Vice President of Institutional Advancement

This part-time position is responsible for fundraising to support the Atlanta Botanical Garden, Gainesville, including capital campaign gifts and high-level membership contributions. Primary responsibilities include identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects and donors, as follows:

Cultivation

  • Manage a portfolio of major gift and high-level membership prospects and donors.
  • Plan and implement cultivation activities to strengthen relationships with donors and prospects.
  • Attend Garden programs and special events, as appropriate.

Solicitation

  • Develop appeals and proposals.
  • Include key staff and volunteers in solicitation strategies.
  • Participate in face-to-face solicitations.
  • Maintain a pipeline of solicitations and proposals.

Stewardship

  • Nurture relationships with donors.
  • Attend Garden programs and special events, as appropriate.
  • Partner with Circles Coordinator to ensure fulfillment of membership benefits.

Administration

  • Develop annual work plan and revenue goals.
  • Provide regular updates to Vice President of Institutional Advancement.
  • Oversee preparation by support staff of gift acknowledgements and other correspondence.
  • Maintain accurate donor records in both Raiser’s Edge database, as well as digital and traditional paper files.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Vice President of Institutional Advancement.

Position Requirements: The ideal candidate will have a minimum of one year of face-to-face solicitation experience and a proven track record in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and closure of high-level membership gifts and/or major gifts. The position requires excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills, strong project and time management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to develop and maintain good donor relations. Experience working with volunteers is a plus.

The ideal candidate will be results-oriented with excellent organization and planning skills, an entrepreneurial self-starter, and a team player with energy, enthusiasm, and flexibility as well as familiarity with the Gainesville/Hall County donor community. Strong negotiation and presentation skills and full computer proficiency are required. Competency with Raiser’s Edge strongly preferred. The position requires an undergraduate degree. CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) is a plus.
