Al’ya Bushelle

Al’ya is a Post-baccalaureate Rare Plant Researcher and Mentee, granted by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Her work and research is centered on micropropagation, seed banking, and conservation horticulture, with a focus on developing and improving methods for the conservation and propagation of rare plant species. Al’ya graduated from the HBCU Spelman College with her degree in Environmental Science. Through that experience she developed a background in horticulture, plant science & conservation. Al’ya was born in New York, but raised southeast of Atlanta. Outside of work she manages an indoor houseplant care business and cares for a large collection of her favorite rare houseplants. She also enjoys spending time with her cat and all things self care.

Al’ya’s favorite thing about the botanical garden is the tropical rotunda because of the immersive experience and grandeur of the plants. Her favorite thing about the work that she does is working in the micropropagation laboratory with her mentor. She believes that tissue culturing could be a hobby and enjoys coming to work to maintain the collections in the lab.
