Rina was born in Cuenca, Ecuador. Shortly after graduating as an Environmental Biologist in 2001 from the Universidad del Azuay, she came to the United States and started working at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. She helped with specialized orchid installations in the newly constructed Fuqua Orchid Center and also worked with research projects in the Tissue Culture Lab. Since 2015, Rina has been a Conservation Horticulturist in the Conservation & Research Department helping grow and maintain the Garden's rare plant collection. Rina is also part of the Latin American Orchid Conservation Projects.
