Longleaf Part-time Opportunities

The Atlanta Botanical Garden, located in the heart of Midtown, features 30+ acres of horticulturally diverse display gardens. Fun blooms in all four seasons with popular annual events including Orchid Daze, Atlanta Blooms, blockbuster summer exhibitions, Cocktails in the Garden, Concerts in the Garden and Scarecrows in the Garden are capped off during the Garden's biggest yearly event: Garden Lights, Holiday Nights.

Longleaf Restaurant is an upscale casual dining concept located in a two-level contemporary glass structure in the heart of the Garden, featuring full-service dining, a rooftop terrace, a grab-and-go café, and flexible space for educational programs, private rentals and special events. Inside, guests enjoy commanding views of the Anne Cox Chambers Southern Seasons Garden and Levy Parterre. The cuisine is contemporary new American with a focus on fresh local seasonal ingredients occasionally featuring product harvested on site from the Botanical Gardens edible garden.

The Atlanta Botanical Garden is currently accepting applications for the following positions starting from late March 2019 to early January 2020, working up to 28 hours per week:

Host

General Responsibilities

  • Seating guests in Front Server sections and communicating wait times.
  • Maintain effective communication between the Host and Server team.
  • Stay updated on current food menu and hours of operation.
  • Maintain proper dining experience, assisting with checked coats or other items.
  • Always using a tray in the dining room for glassware or any item smaller than your hands.
  • Perform basic cleaning tasks as needed or directed by supervisor.
  • Fill in for absent staff as needed.
  • Assist with special events as needed.
  • Greet all guests that enter the restaurant warmly with an appropriate greeting.
  • Adhere to grooming and appearance standards consistently.
  • Understand and can communicate events and services available at the Garden.
  • Prepare the tables with silverware other items that are clean and ready, making sure the items needed for the shift are stocked, performing all other preparation tasks.

Specific Responsibilities

Guest Relations

  • At all times displaying a refined and approachable demeanor to each guest.
  • Welcoming guests, opening doors, and seating tables as per our steps of service.
  • Communicating the guest’s arrival and any reservation notes to the intended server, chefs, and management.
  • Taking reservations, answering phones, and communicating messages to the proper recipients in a timely fashion.
  • Answering phones and following all phone etiquette procedures with concise and knowledgeable answers.
  • Assisting in edits during service to the restaurant’s reservation sheet and working closely with the management staff to guarantee precise guest accommodation.
  • Thanking each guest for dining with us and inviting them back.

Restaurant Operations

  • Assist in maintaining a perfectly set dining room at all times. This would include but not limited to sweeping, cleaning floor mats, lighting candles, clearing and resetting tables.
  • Communicating upkeep needed for the restrooms.
  • Checking & tracking coats, umbrellas, hats, strollers, and any other apparel checked by guests.
  • Full knowledge of phone system functions.
  • Assisting with directions to the restaurant or the Atlanta Botanical Garden and its exhibits.
  • Checking and collecting menus from service areas and reviewing for cleanliness.
  • Maintaining a proper flow of guests to each server section.
  • Assist with upholding the Steps of Service for the entire Host Team

Basic Requirements

  • Excellent oral communication skills required.

  • Basic understanding of allergy and dietary needs and descriptions.
  • Regular washing of hands

Additional Information

  • Must possess at least one-year experience working as a host in a full-service restaurant.

Snack Shack Attendant

Basic Requirements

  • Experience at using a cash register and handling money
  • Excellent communication skills required.
  • Positive interpersonal skills required.
  • Basic menu knowledge and general knowledge of the Garden and restaurant

Food Runner

General Responsibilities

  • Assist Front Servers with running side work tasks.
  • Prepare for service. This includes but is not limited to preparing drink stations, stocking all beverage areas, and cleaning where needed.
  • Always abide by company uniform policy.
  • Maintain effective communication between the Chef team and the Front Server team.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of current food and drink menu.
  • Communicating any allergy or other specifications to chef team.
  • Follow all steps of service laid out in training documents at all times.
  • Assist with special events as needed.
  • Greet all guests that enter the restaurant warmly with an appropriate greeting.
  • Have full knowledge of the Atlanta Botanical Gardens including operating times, the location of special features, and special events.
  • Take Reservations when necessary, direct customers to their tables, presenting menus, suggesting food and beverage items, informing guest about food preparation details, communicating any allergy or other specifications to chef team.

Basic Requirements

  • Excellent oral communication skills required.

  • Must speak English fluently and be able to write in basic English.

  • Follow the basic company guidelines for personal care.

Server

General Responsibilities

  • Prepare the tables, silverware is clean and ready, making sure the items needed for the shift are stocked, performing all other preparation tasks.
  • Stay updated on current food and drink menu.
  • Take Reservations when necessary, direct customers to their tables, presenting menus, suggesting food and beverage items, informing guest about food preparation details, communicating any allergy or other specifications to chef team.
  • Maintain proper dining experience, delivering items, fulfilling customer needs, replenishing utensils, refilling glasses offering desserts and coffee, removing courses.
  • Always using a tray in the dining room for glassware or any item smaller than your hands.
  • Properly opening and pouring wine tableside.
  • Obtain and accepting payments, returning the change if necessary.
  • Perform basic cleaning tasks as needed or directed by supervisor.
  • Fill in for absent staff as needed.
  • Assist with special events as needed.
  • Greet all guests that enter the restaurant warmly with an appropriate greeting.
  • Adhere to grooming and appearance standards consistently.
  • Understand and can communicate events and services available at the Garden.

Basic Requirements

  • 1-year experience serving tables in a full-service restaurant.
  • Excellent oral communication skills required.
  • Positive interpersonal skills required.
  • Basic understanding of allergy and dietary needs and descriptions.
  • Regular washing of hands.

Bartender

General Responsibilities

  • Greet each guest and nurture outstanding customer service.
  • Ensure compliance of the Garden’s cash handling policy at all times.
  • Accurately and efficiently complete all sale transactions and maintain proper cash drawer accountabilities and balance banks at the end of the shift.
  • Handle set-up, break down and clean-up of assigned POS terminal.
  • Properly record all transactions via the point of sale system and confirm the order and inform guests of the amounts owed, process payments and determine the correct change for guests.
  • Handle set up of the stand, arrange inventory, and notify supervisor of any inventory deficiency or shortage.
  • Handle all preparation of bar products, mixing ingredients, and serving drinks.
  • Ensure solid product knowledge of all items being sold.
  • Acquaint guest with items for sale and use proper selling techniques.
  • Gauge customers’ needs and preferences and make recommendations.
  • Serve alcoholic beverages responsibly, requests identification, and adhere to all alcohol service policies and procedures.
  • Perform clean-up duties in the stand to maintain the quality appearance of the work area, including cleaning equipment.
  • Perform breakdown of all product and supplies that are pulled and return the product to the appropriate storage location.

For all positions listed above the Physical Requirements and Working Conditions are:

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent walking with some standing at times.
  • Will walk for long periods of time, possibly extended distances.
  • Frequently lifts/carries up to 25 lbs.

Working Conditions

  • May be an indoor or outdoor setting depending on outlet.
  • Varied weather conditions are expected.

Varying schedule to include evenings, holidays and extended hours as business dictates.


Line/Prep Cook

PRINCIPAL FUNCTION:  The Line/Prep Cook assists with preparation of meals and is responsible for complying with sanitation regulations.

General Responsibilities

  • Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies.
  • Prepare food for service.
  • Follow recipes set by the restaurant.
  • Cook menu items in cooperation with the rest of the kitchen staff.
  • Answer, report and follow executive and sous chef’s instructions.
  • Clean Food preparation areas, facilities, and equipment.
  • Stock inventory appropriately.
  • Ensure that food comes out simultaneously, in high quality and in a timely fashion.
  • Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards.
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers.

Requirements

  • Serve Safe certified.
  • Proven relevant work experience – minimum 1-2 years strongly preferred
  • Excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures
  • Accuracy and speed in executing tasks
  • Familiar with the industry’s best practices

Dishwasher

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils in clean and orderly condition
  • Clean and maintain the dish area.
  • Clean Food preparation areas, facilities, and equipment.
  • Place clean dishes, utensils and cooking equipment in storage areas.
  • Sort and remove trash, placing it in designated pickup areas.
  • Remove trash.
  • Sweep, scrub and mop floors.
  • Clean and prepare various foods for cooking or serving.
  • Receive and store supplies.
  • Clean restrooms.
  • Clean and organize service area.

Requirements

  • Proven relevant work experience – minimum of 1-2 years strongly preferred.
  • Accuracy and speed in executing tasks.
