Deciduous Camellia

Common Name: Deciduous Camellia

Scientific Name: Stewartia pseudocamellia

Origin: Japan

Family: Theaceae

Bloom time: June

While Camellias are sometimes known as the winter rose, the flowers of the Deciduous Camellia – called natsutsubaki, "summer camellia," in its native Japan – bloom in summer with white flowers and electric yellow-orange anthers. The red-brown bark exfoliates for winter interest, and this hardy plant can withstand extremely low temperatures.
