Sally Phipps

As the Conservation Communications Specialist, Sally helps manage science communication, engagement, and outreach for the Southeastern Center for Conservation.  The core part of her role is management of a 3-year project funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Propagating our Future, which works to increase awareness and visibility of the Garden’s conservation and research efforts with key audiences. She also manages the Center’s Instagram account @atlantabgconservation, inspiring and educating our audience about the science and conservation of the Southeast’s endangered plants and their habitats.

Sally has a Master of Science in Environment and Sustainability from the University of Michigan, where she studied Ecosystem Science and Management and Environmental Social Science and focused on applications of behavior science for environmental conservation.

Sally is native to the Atlanta area. She is passionate about plants during and outside of work. My hobbies are veggie gardening and native plant gardening. She is very involved with the native plant movement and serves on the board of the Georgia Native Plant Society. When she is not obsessing about native plants, she enjoys reading fiction, traveling, and exploring nature. 

She is grateful to be able to work in a field that she is passionate about: biodiversity conservation. She loves when her work helps people who normally wouldn’t take another look at plants understand their importance and why we work so hard to save them.
