Maximillion Meader

Maximillion Meader is one of ABG’s 2023 RaMP Mentees. His projects include seed banking and germination trials, as well as helping ensure the long-term safety of the garden's living Sarracenia collection. He will also be helping isolate the mycorrhizal fungi involved in germination of the endangered white fringeless orchid (Platanthera integrilabia). Awarded with a B.S. in Biology with a minor in environmental science from the University of Central Florida, Max started his journey as a greenhouse intern at UCF‘s Arboretum. Eventually, he was promoted to Greenhouse Co-coordinator and was placed in charge of managing their greenhouse team. Through this, he learned the fundamentals of plant care and greenhouse operations. He also used this time to communicate the beauty of the native plants that can be found throughout daily life.

Max believes plants should be valued beyond just their monetary, or aesthetic appeal; they are the fundamental backbone of all life on our planet. During his time at ABG, he hopes to continue growing his understanding of today’s conservation challenges and how to combat them in a rapidly changing world. When not at the Garden, Max enjoys hiking camping and making friends out of strangers. He is excited to help preserve some of the species that help define our lives, ecosystems, and planet!
