Plant Pollinator Program
Native Bees of Atlanta
The Garden is conducting surveys of native bees on its grounds and within the metropolitan Atlanta area. Using pan traps and net-sampling methods, the Garden aims to measure pollinator biodiversity.
Bees are identified in the Garden's research lab, and data will be shared with the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center’s Bee Monitoring Laboratory to catalog specimens.
This data fosters an understanding of plant-pollinator relationships and provides information about native plant-pollinator ecology. Additionally, the Garden is working with Beech Hollow Farms to produce native bee guides that conservation partners can distribute to educate the public about these vital creatures and their relationships to plants.
