Orchid Daze:
Beauty and Light
Orchid Daze returns to the Fuqua Orchid Center Feb. 8 – April 13 featuring the scintillating beauty of orchids by using a variety of reflective media.
About the Exhibition
Orchid Daze, the Garden’s annual celebration of its signature plant collection, blooms this winter with a dazzling exhibition making use of the abundant natural light in the Fuqua Conservatory and Orchid Center.
The works complement three strikingly different orchid landscapes in the Fuqua Conservatory Lobby, Orchid Center Atrium and Orchid Center Display House. In the east-facing Conservatory Lobby, the soft morning light will be captured by vertical curtains of crystals of varying sizes and shapes, and reflected through alternating layers of jewel-toned miniature orchids. A spiral galaxy of crystals will hover in the vertical space above the corridor linking the Conservatory and Orchid Center. A crystalline water feature will form the focal point in the formal bed of the Orchid Display House directly behind the Reflection Pond, where visitors can linger and sit among the orchids on display inside the cedar pergola.
About the Collection
The Atlanta Botanical Garden is home to one of the largest orchid collections at any public garden in the world.
All year, countless orchids are displayed in two specific climate zones inside the Fuqua Orchid Center: the Tropical High Elevation House and the Orchid Display House. Some are brought from on-site greenhouses for display while in bloom. Others are permanently installed to illustrate a more naturalistic growth on trees and structures.
