Corpse Flower

“Displayed near the doors to the Orchid Center is a glass sculpture by Jason Gamrath inspired by Amorphophallus titanum, the corpse flower. This piece was part of a 2021 summer exhibition featuring Jason Gamrath’s large-scaled glass sculptures throughout the Garden. Amorphophallus titanum has the largest unbranched inflorescence in the plant kingdom, which can grow up to 8 feet tall. Appearing to be a large flower, the inflorescence is incredibly stinky and only lasts about 2-3 days. The Garden has Amorphophallus titanum in the backup greenhouse and will display it when it blooms, which is always a rare and exciting event.” – shared by David Ruland, Greenhouse Manager.
