Joe Stockert

As a Field Biologist for the Conservation and Research department at Atlanta Botanical
Gardens, Joe Stockert implements monitoring, collection, and research projects
focusing on threatened and endangered plant species across the Southeastern United
States. A native of Atlanta, Joe grew up hiking and camping with his family in the woods
of the Piedmont and southern Blue Ridge, where he learned to care for his diverse non-
human neighbors. Having studied Biology as an undergraduate at Georgia Tech, and
later Environmental Science as a graduate student at Emory University, Joe’s research
interests include the ecology and evolution of natural communities, the history of human
interactions with the environment, and potential futures for biodiversity in the
Anthropocene. Joe likes to spend time climbing rocks, riding bicycles, and playing
musical instruments.
