The Atlanta Botanical Garden’s Garden Lights, Holiday Nights is ready to shine like never before – this time, in prime time!
The 13th annual electrical extravaganza, presented by Invesco QQQ, was selected last year to compete for best light show in the country on ABC-TV’s The Great Christmas Light Fight. The series, now in its 11th season, features holiday-decorating homeowners in a contest judged by a professional designer to determine the best amateur outdoor light displays around the country. The Garden will compete next month in the show’s special “Heavyweights” category with other professionally designed light displays for the coveted trophy along with a $50,000 grand prize.
“We were beyond thrilled when we were asked to audition for this extremely popular holiday show,” said Mary Pat Matheson, the Garden’s President & CEO. “The production team spent three days and nights here in the fall 2022 filming our team of seven Garden staffers as told our story of how Garden Lights supports our critical mission work in connecting people with plants through horticulture and collections, community programs, and conservation and research.”
The Garden will compete against three other light shows – River of Lights at the ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden in Albuquerque, NM; the Winter Lantern Festival in New York City; and Galaxy Lights at Space Center Houston – in its special category, judged by series co-host Taniya Nayak. The series airs on ABC on November 26, December 3, 10, 12 and 19.
The Garden’s “Heavyweights” competition can be seen on Tuesday, Dec. 12 from 9 – 11 p.m.
