Students will learn the basics of composing and crafting haiku in English. We will explore the power of image to evoke emotion and how artful juxtaposition may result in the haiku (ah-ha) moment. A discussion of seasonal awareness and the understanding of kigo will further enhance our understanding. People, being part of nature will also provide a focal point as we search for moments – both serious and humorous – where the essence of being human is made manifest.
