Constellation® Dogwood
Common Name: Constellation® Dogwood
Scientific Name: Cornus x ‘Rutcan’
Origin: Hybrid
Family: Cornaceae
Bloom time: April - May
This deciduous understory tree grows 16 to 22-feet-tall and blooms in well-spaced, showy, white floral bracts in spring and features red leaves in fall. As it is a sterile cultivar, there is no fruit. The Constellation® Dogwood prefers organically rich, acidic, moist soil and part shade. It is noted for having good resistance to borers and anthracnose which are common dogwood problems.
This hybrid, Cornus florida x Cornus kousa, was developed at Rutgers University.
