Herb Gate

This piece by Andrew Crawford was initially a commission for an entrance gate for a rose garden at a client’s home. After the design was completed, but before the construction began, a hail storm destroyed the rose garden. The client reluctantly had to cancel the gate purchase, and instead, replace the entirety of the rose garden.

Later, when he had an opportunity to enter a piece in a traveling show, Crawford decided to build the gate, following his earlier design. After the show, the gate was borrowed for use in a Southeastern Flower Show display, where it attracted much favorable attention. Being so appropriate in a garden setting, the “Herb Garden Gate” was purchased in 1998 by the Garden Club of Georgia to be placed in the Atlanta Botanical Garden at the entrance to the herb garden.
