Are you ready to embark on an exciting journey into the fascinating world of honeybees? Whether you’re a passionate gardener or a devoted honey lover, this course is tailor-made for you! Dive deep into the art of beekeeping with guidance from master craftsmen, seasoned beekeepers, and renowned entomology professors from the esteemed UGA Bee Lab.

Schedule

8:30 – 8:50 a.m.: Registration
Each registration fee includes a one-year membership to the Tri-County Beekeepers Club. It
also includes a free tour of the Gardens the day of this course.

8:50 – 9 a.m.: Welcome – Chris Smith, President of the Tri-County Beekeepers of Georgia 

9 – 9:45 a.m.: Honeybee Biology
This presentation will discuss the fundamental biology of honeybees, including their anatomy,
behavior, diet, and the various types of bees found within a colony.

10 – 10:45 a.m.: Basic Hive Equipment & Packages, Nucleus Colonies
This guide will explain how to find and purchase honeybees, as well as provide an overview of
the necessary equipment and housing options for your bees.

11 – 11:45 a.m.: A Year in the Bee Yard
This overview provides a complete guide for managing honeybees throughout the year,
detailing month-by-month actions needed to maintain the health of your colonies in Georgia.

Noon – 12:45 p.m.: Lunch (included with registration fee)
Each table will be hosted by beekeepers who are open for questions and discussions during
lunch.

12:45 – 1:30 p.m.: Pests & Disease Management
This presentation discusses honeybee diseases and pests, along with management practices to
maintain optimal health for your colonies.

1:45 – 2:30 p.m.: The Bounty of the Hive
By keeping our bees healthy and strong we are rewarded with honey and more. This
presentation discusses traditional honey harvesting and bottling to wax rendering and other hive
products.

2:30 – 3 p.m.: Speakers Q&A
